In case you missed it: In Part One, we set our itinerary. In Part Two, we trained. In Part Three, we talked about packing. And in Part Four, we discussed food. Today, I want to sum up briefly.

Yosemite is a well-documented park, in photos, videos, and text – the quotes and images are iconic and almost cliche. Nothing you see or read will prepare you for what you’ll find. Months later, I am still awed by our experience and would return in a heartbeat. Half Dome was a bucket list item for me, a symbol of a sense of adventure and confidence in my own abilities, and perhaps a gateway to the outdoors life I have always craved. I found everything I was looking for in Yosemite and more.

On our way up the Mist trail, we hiked for a while with a father/daughter pair. They were taking the hike slowly, stopping often to rest and chat, and told us that their memories of hiking together were some of their best. I want to still be hiking when our kids are old enough to go with us. I want to be the one to introduce them to the wonders of the natural world.

I was grateful for our training and encouraged by how very doable our route was, after we had planned so thoroughly.  I came back filled with energy to make trips like this possible for anyone who wants to do them.
