I love the idea of backpacking but have never actually backpacked before. Where do I start?

Hurray! You’re in the right place. Start here with the Leave No Trace guidelines to give you a sense of outdoors culture and etiquette. Then tell us where and when you’re going and we’ll get you started with a bag and a detailed explanation of what’s in it and why.

Can you deliver to an address that’s not my home?

Absolutely. Just let us know where to send it and we’ll get it there.

Is a signature required for delivery?

Nope!

Do you ship to PO boxes?

Unfortunately not - we’re shipping you a backpack, which is difficult to fit into a PO box.

How much does shipping cost?

Shipping costs are included in your bag rental fee.

It’s Wednesday. I just got invited on a getaway this weekend. Can you help me out?

We need a week in advance to get you the best bag for you, but shoot Jenny an email (on the contact page) and we’ll send you a list of outdoors stores near you so you can stock up for next time.

How do I make changes to my order?

Until your bag ships, you can make changes by emailing us. After it ships, your bag’s contents are set.

Why do I have to pick a gender just to get a backpack?

Good question. Backpacks tend to be shaped for people of two shapes: the "male" bags are for people with broader shoulders and a hip to waist ratio that's straighter. "Female" bags are for people with slenderer shoulders and higher hip/waist curvature. Pick the one that's best for your body!

How do I cancel my order?

Shoot us an email (via the contact page) before your bag is prepped and packed, and we’ll get you taken care of.

How do I find my order number?

Your order number is in your confirmation email.

This bag is awesome! When do I need to get it back to you?

By the next business day after your trip ends - the date is in the confirmation email just in case.

I’m late sending my bag back! What are your late fees?

Our late fees are $50 a day, charged to the card you used when you checked out. Our inventory is limited and on time returns are crucial for our business model. If you’re more than 20 days late, we’ll mark your order as a non-return and charge you the maximum late fee.

Back in civilization I realize that my bag smells distinctly like “backpacker”. Do I need to clean it before returning it?

Not at all. Cleaning is our job. Just wrap that funky thing up and ship it back to us. Jenny gets a kick out of laundry/cleaning challenges - make her day.

My trip took place in three days of torrential downpour. Everything is soaked and muddy. Can I just send it back to you?

Boy, have we been there. (And we kind of love it.) First, please dry everything out. Damp means mildew, and mildew is the worst - damaging and smelly! Please know that we will charge an additional cleaning fee if you send us wet gear, to make sure that the mildew’s not hanging around. As for the mud, after you dry your gear out, give it a good shake or a quick brushing - get the loose stuff off. We’ll take care of the rest. If you send it to us caked in dirt...we’ll charge you an additional cleaning fee to cover the extra time to get it back in rotation.

I took a fall on a scramble and scuffed my pack a bit! Now what?

For normal wear and tear, like dirt and scuffing, don’t worry about it. If you put a serious tear in it, or if you pitched your tent too close to the fire and now it’s got some new ventilation, we’re going to have to charge you a repair fee.

I just sent my bag back, and I miss some of the cool stuff in it. Can I buy it from you?

Absolutely! We run garage sales every so often - keep an eye on your email for more details.

What’s this I hear about you donating backpacks to kids?

For every backpack we rent, we give a packed bag to a kid for a weekend trip outside. We work with a bunch of local charities to do trips a few times a year. Check our Insta for pics!
